Types We Use
Rupsa uses four categories of cookies, each serving a different purpose:
Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are strictly necessary for Rupsa to provide you with the services you have requested. Without these cookies, some parts of Rupsa would not work.
Because these cookies are strictly necessary to deliver Rupsa's services, you cannot refuse them without impacting how our platform functions. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as logging in, setting privacy preferences, or filling in forms.
- Authentication — keeping you logged in securely across your browsing session
- Security — CSRF tokens that prevent cross-site request forgery attacks
- Load balancing — ensuring requests are routed to the correct server
- Media playback — enabling video and audio content to play correctly
- Accessibility — remembering display preferences for users with accessibility needs
Functional Cookies
Functional cookies enable Rupsa to remember information that changes the way the site behaves or looks, such as your preferred language or the region you are in. They may also be used to provide services you have asked for, such as watching a video or commenting on a blog.
- Language and locale — storing your preferred display language and region
- Theme preference — remembering whether you prefer light or dark mode
- Notification settings — saving your push notification and email preferences
- Content preferences — which topics, lists, and accounts you follow
- UI state — remembering which panels, columns, or drawers you have open
If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly and you may need to re-enter your preferences each time you visit Rupsa.
Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with Rupsa by collecting and reporting information anonymously. This helps us count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our platform.
- Page performance — measuring load times, error rates, and user flows
- Feature usage — understanding which features are popular or underused
- A/B testing — comparing different versions of features to determine which works best
- Crash reporting — collecting data about errors and crashes to fix them quickly
- Funnel analysis — understanding where users drop off during key tasks like sign-up
The information generated by analytics cookies is used to compile reports and to help us improve Rupsa. We may share anonymised, aggregated reports with third parties, but these do not include any information that could identify you personally.
Advertising Cookies
Advertising cookies are used to make the advertising messages you see more relevant to you. They perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing, ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers, and in some cases selecting advertisements that are based on your interests.
- Interest-based ads — showing ads relevant to topics you engage with on Rupsa
- Ad frequency capping — preventing you from seeing the same ad too many times
- Conversion tracking — helping advertisers measure how effective their ads are
- Retargeting — showing ads from Rupsa advertisers on third-party websites
- Cross-device linking — understanding that you use Rupsa on multiple devices
If you disable advertising cookies, you will still see ads on Rupsa but they will be less relevant to your interests. Disabling these cookies does not mean you will see fewer ads.

When you visit Rupsa, third-party service providers may set their own cookies on your device. These third parties include analytics providers like Google, advertising partners, and social sharing platforms.

Cookie Duration
Cookies have different lifespans depending on their purpose:
Temporary cookies deleted when you close your browser. Used for authentication and security during your active visit.
Examples: auth_token, ct0, lang
Stored on your device until they expire or you delete them. Used for preferences, analytics, and advertising.
Examples: ruid, personalization_id, ads_prefs
The maximum duration of any persistent cookie set by Rupsa is 5 years, though most are set for 1–2 years. We regularly review our cookies and remove those that are no longer necessary.
Managing Preferences
You have several ways to control how cookies are used when you visit Rupsa:

Browser settings
Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. Note that disabling all cookies may impact the functionality of Rupsa and other websites you visit. Common browser controls:
Opt-out tools
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA): optout.aboutads.info — opt out of interest-based advertising from DAA member companies
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): optout.networkadvertising.org — opt out of targeted advertising from NAI members
- European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): youronlinechoices.eu — for EU/UK users
- Google Analytics opt-out: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout — browser add-on to prevent Google Analytics tracking
Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you do not want your online activity tracked. Rupsa currently does not respond to DNT signals because there is no consistent industry standard for how DNT signals should be interpreted.
However, you can use the cookie preference panel above or your browser settings to opt out of optional cookies.
Policy Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, regulation, or our business practices. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you via email or an in-app notice.
We encourage you to periodically review this policy to stay informed about how we use cookies. Your continued use of Rupsa following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
